June 20, 2016

This week has been pretty jam packed with lots of member
splits! Elder Gonzalez turns out to have Tendinitis in his foot and so
we got permission from President to leave him with our ward mission
leader, Hermano Buffoni, and I've been going out with youth from our
ward. We also have meet some really great people this week!
So to start off the week we went to the doctors to check out Elder
Gonzalez's foot and they quickly determined he has Tendinitis in the
sole of his foot. They told him that he needed to stay off his foot
for an ENTIRE week.....so we decided that the best option would be
finding a member to leave him with and to find someone to go it with
me. Luckily our ward mission leader is retired, therefore he's always
at home and his son, Carlos, came back early from his
mission(well....not so lucky on that part) but his son was able to go
out with me for Wednesday and Thursday, then a member named Russell
came out with me on Friday. It was really good for Carlos to come out
with us because we are able to help him catch the spirit of missionary
work and have some spiritual experiences to help him get back out on
his mission. Hermano and Hermana Buffoni was very very excited to see
him going out with me, and told us that he's starting to change
already from just those two days together.
If we didn't have members with us we pretty much were stuck in Piso
but luckily that only happened for two mornings of the week, so I got
to take two naps and once we found other members to come out with us,
it was back to work! I can't tell you how precious sleep is on the
mission, it literally is just go go go for two years and the lack of
relax time takes a toll, but it's sooo worth it!
So this week Carlos and I found an Ecuadorian couple named, Franklin
and Monica, on the street by our piso and they were super rude right
off the bat, actually Monica started getting upset with me and was
telling me how churches are horrible and that she doesn't believe in
any church, only in the "one true God". We assured her that we believe
in "the one true God" as she says it, and that we were sharing a
message that he wants her to hear, so she accepted us to let us come
over on Friday. On Friday I went over, with another member, Russell,
and we taught the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The
lesson was SUPER intense and the spirit was super strong there, Monica
opened up to is a lot about the experiences she's had in her life, and
she truly has been prepared to receive the gospel in this moment in
her life. She then came to a baptism the 3rd Ward had with us, on
Saturday and really really liked it! Then on Sunday came with us to
Sacrament Meeting, actually they picked us up and drove us! They
really liked it and Monica told me at the baptism, "I've always
opposed organized religion, but I don't why but I just feel so good
being here. It just feels right." In a matter of days she changed from
a person who just had a dark countenance to someone who looked full of
light. As we saw her desiring to make this change we invited her to be
baptized on the 16th of July, and she said she would if she knew it
was true! I truly hope she can continue making these changes in her
life that will bring her so much happiness!!! This gospel is really a
gospel of happiness and change!
I love being able to see people make these changes in their lives! I
know that the gospel blesses families and that anyone can change, no
matter what, because our Savior Jesus Christ completed the atonement,
we ALL can change! There is no exception, case or reason why we can't
change, the only thing that holds us back is ourselves through our
pride. May we always let the Lord change us to be who we should be and
put his will above ours! Love you all very much!!!
Have an amazing week!

June 14, 2016

Birthday lunch with members and imported DR. Pepper that cost 13€!
Hey! So another great week here in Valencia, Elder Gonzalez and I have
been working hard and meeting a lot of wonderful people as we contact
on the street. It's starting get quite a bit more hot but I still
absolutely love it here. Valencia is soooo beautiful and I feel so
grateful to serve here!
So we've been finding lots of new investigators, but everyone seems to
cancel on us when we go for the second visit! Anywhere else it would
be very frustrating, but I thoroughly enjoy talking to the wonderful
people of Valencia on the street, in my last two areas contacting was
very hard, we would get yelled at, laughed at, and some other things
that are not very nice but here everyone is super polite and friendly
and basically everyone we stop listens and is very nice! What a
blessing!!!!
Along with contacting we've been passing by old investigators in the
area, ringing their doorbells and trying to meet them. And as we were
doing that we knocked an investigators door and her son answered the
door and let us in. Turns out she wasn't there but her three sons
were(Diego 19,Dario 13, and Deymar 9). We sat down and shared a little
bit about the Book of Mormon and invited them to read it and to pray!
Their mom is getting back this week, and we'll be meeting with them
soon to hopefully start teaching them!!
We also went to eat "Fufu" (an African Dish that includes a potato
dough stuff that you dip in a soup with your hands) with a member
named, "Mama Africa" from Cameroon(A Country in Africa) and it was
SUPER GOOD! Valencia has soooo many Africans, lots from Nigeria,
Cameroon and Ecuadorian Guinea. And the African people are just so
great people, they have great faith and are so funny! Lots of people
from Nigeria speak a form of broken English called, Pigeon and it's
super hard to understand! For example a typical phrase in Pigeon is,
"I like you leg!" Which translates to in American, "I like your
shoes!" Hahaha. So as you can see talking to Africans in Pigeon is
super fun haha.
Later in the week we meet a Lady from Cameroon named Laura, and we
started teaching her! We met her on the street and got in for the
second visit!!! We taught her the Restoration very simply because she
speaks mainly French and the spirit was very strong, and it was nice
to know that I'm finally not the person who speaks the worst Spanish
anymore haha!
The weeks are literally just flying by now.....I'm starting to
approach my one year mark! Also my companion hurt his foot playing
soccer on Saturday and now has tendinitis in his foot. So he's going
to be on crutches for the next couple weeks :(, but at least it's not
broken! I know God loves all of you and he wants us to come unto him,
and thanks to our Savior we all can! Have a great week! Adios

June 6,2016

Hey everyone from Beautiful València!!! So as I wrote I got
transferred to the South part of the mission, Valencia is a big city
on the coast 200 miles south of Barcelona! The people are AMAZING
here, everyone talks to us and are just generally nice. I finally
don't feel like everyone hates me for being a missionary hahaha....but
seriously it's amazing here. It is very warm and there are a ton of
African people here! But this week has just flown by!!
To start off the week Elder Gonzalez and I spent a lot of time on the
streets talking to people, but contacting is super fun here! So on our
first day we went passing by old investigators and knocked the door of
someone, and a Bolivian teenager boy answers the door(PS he looks like
a darker version of Andy haha) and he lets us in, and we teach him and
his Sister the restoration, and we invited them to be baptized and
they said, YES! Wooooooo, so we'll be going back this next week to see
if they read and how they feel!
We've been able to teach a TON this past week and I've never found
this amount of new investigators in my mission! This past we found 25
new investigators and taught close to 45 lessons to investigators!!
Élder Gonzalez and I are working hard.
Also to tell you all about my new companion, he is from Lima, Peru but
speaks perfect English because he learned English when he was little.
I would say he speaks better English than I do sometimes hahaha! He's
25 years old and was baptized 2 years ago and has been in the mission
3 more months than I have (PS I'm not going to mention how much time I
have in the mission anymore haha), but he left for the mission on the
1 year mark of his baptism, so he's a really great man!
So I'm really enjoying it down here in Valencia, even though it is
going to get BURNING HOT it'll be amazing. Everyone in the mission
refers to the Valencia Zone as the "Promised Land" so it's really
great! Hope all is well and have a great week!!
Con mucho calor,
